Augustine Lecture: "What went wrong with Capitalism?"

Venue: Church building of Emmanuel Baptist Church,  Cnr Ontdekkers Road & Abbott Street, Florida Park, Florida, Johannesburg

Topic:  Capitalism.  The talk will take a critical look at the foundations, nature and workings of capitalism, investigating where it has failed us and what a Biblically informed way forward might look like.

Speaker:  Dr Michael Schluter, an economist, author and social entrepreneur.  He is the Chief Executive of Relationships Global, promoting the understanding of relational issues in areas such as business, family, finance, education, healthcare and justice.  Also, Michael has launched several charities and gained public recognition for his work when Queen Elizabeth II awarded him a CBE in 2009.

“Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Dear brothers and sisters,

“Moses my servant is dead.  Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel” (Joshua 1:2).  This passage has been very close to our hearts as a congregation, as we have sought to come to terms with the death of one of our missionaries.  The news is at the end of this prayer letter.  In the meantime, please read on...
